Known as a jokester, Talal has made his mark in the Islamabad office. Junaid, his Team Lead, told us: “Talal is one of the best developers on my team. He has been on my team for the last few years, and he didn’t give me a chance to tell him to improve his performance. He is the best example of how to be a smart worker. Whenever his client assigns him a task, he finds the best way to resolve the issue in a timely manner. Talal is also a good team player and is always willing to help me in improving our department. I really appreciate him for his contribution to our work.”
One of our other managers, Nabeel, had this to say: “Talal is very talented person. He is a very hardworking and cool minded person. He is a genius in our company. Talal is respectful and dedicated to his work. He is not only good at development but he is good at sports too. Talal is a very nice and helping person by nature.”
What got you started in the IT field Talal?
I used to do well in computer science studies during my school days. I also had an interest in computer games as well, so later on I studied software engineering and then came into this field.
What computer games did you grow up loving?
Well, before I had a computer, I used to play many games on a Sega Mega Drive and also in the market. The games I used to play were Super Mario, Sonic, Pitfall, Soccer 96, and Street Fighter. Later on I played games likes EA Sports Fifa 2002 and Medal of Honor on computer systems.
So tell us a little about your time working with the company.
I have a really good time with this company. Everything is quite good here, and I love the model. There are no late sittings, everybody comes in, does their work and doesn’t have tension from getting home late. This is what I like the most. There is also one more thing, and that is that communication is regarded as a great tool here. One has to be too good with communication if one wants to grow ahead others; not only the technical skill matters.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned while working with the company?
I have learned that hard work is the only way to surpass the next person.
What do you like to do in your free time outside of work?
Some times I watch movies, and some times I like to just be with friends. When I have more time, I travel with family or friends. I also like to study articles.
What kind of movies do you enjoy watching?
I like different genre movies: art, drama, action, and comedy. I like everything. Two of my favorite movies are “Scent of a Woman” and “The Pursuit of Happyness”.
Scent of a Woman has one of my favorite actors, Al Pacino. Do watch it.
What interesting places have you travelled to before? And where would you like to go in the future?
I have seen Rohtas Fort of Jhelum, and it is really amazing. Also, I like the Badshahi Mosque. Some of the good places of Kashmir I also love are Toli Peer, Las Danna and Pir Chinasi. I would love to explore London from A-Z. Las Vegas, Toronto and Sicily are also places I want to travel to.
Tell us about your family.
I am from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir (Azad Kashmir is a State of Pakistan), and nearly 60% of Mirpurs are in the UK. A big part of my family is also in the UK. We are six brothers and sisters. Everyone older than me has settled in England: my two elder sisters and one brother. There are four of us here in Pakistan. I also have two nieces; I really love them and bring them gifts.
I try to go home every weekend and meet them all. We like to go out for outings with our uncle, and sometimes with the full family.
Do enjoy any sports? Either watching or playing them?
I do love to watch cricket on television, and football sometimes. I watched all the matches of the Fifa World Cup. I play table tennis too, but only in the office. Cricket is my favorite. I used to play daily earlier, now I play very rarely.
Do you have a nickname?
One is Tallo, which is a type of cooking oil. In fact there was a commercial on TV that says something like “Mom, make the food in Tallo, make us healthy,” and my friends in school used to say this to me. My other nickname is Tallu; that is the name many of my friends use and also some of my office mates like Junaid.
Talal’s favorite foods are okra, pizza, and red beans with rice. His favorite quote is “If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life,” from Abraham Maslow.
