He’s taken on some of our most complex projects with a high level of efficiency. Ghaffar has become a trusted member of our team and we always look forward to working with him.”
Ali H., Ghaffar’s Team Lead, said: “Ghaffar is a great addition to our team. From the very beginning, he understood the project and started on it right away. With many years of experience under his belt and effective communication, he is surely going to be integral part of team in the days to come. I wish him all the very best.”
We talked with Ghaffar about his life and his interests, to learn more about this guy “behind the scenes.”
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m a programmer, and I love my job. The good thing about my profession is that you have to learn new things and work on different projects with different people. I go to the gym for fitness and watch movies. I like to spend my free time with my family, and on weekends we usually go out to have dinner and do some shopping.
What else do you like to do with your family on the weekends for fun?
We like to go out to shop or go to dinner, watch movies, gossip, and visit relatives. Last weekend my wife and I tried to make ice cream. It was successful and was a wonderful experience. We didn’t add any flavors this time, we just made a simple ice cream with whipping cream, milk, sugar, and condensed milk. Next time we’re going to add chocolate chips and flavor it.
I have a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Karachi, and a MBA in Management Information Systems from the same University.
So tell me, what got you started in the IT industry?
About 15 years back, computers and computer related technologies were the most exciting human evolution in a very long time, and everyone was talking about it. Personally, I found it very exciting as well so I started taking short courses. Then my interest kept building, until finally I started my career as a Junior Programmer in the industry.
What is your favorite framework to work with?
Microsoft MVC is my favorite, and I have also recently worked on MVVM with KnockoutJS and found that it is great. Microsoft MVC is my favorite because it is their best framework so far for web development. Its separation of concerns is great, and it also combines all the latest technologies of Microsoft for web development.
Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies are going to the gym, cooking, watching movies, and I recently started learning the guitar.
What do you like to cook?
I like to make biryani and haleem, which are Pakistani dishes. I’m trying to learn new recipes as well.
What is the last movie you watched?
I watched The Martian and Everest during this last month. Both of them are good movies, but I liked Everest more. Sightseeing on Everest through the movie was amazing.
Would you ever go mountain climbing?
Last year, a friend and I had plans to go hiking and camping, but I wasn’t able to take my vacation then. I love to go mountain climbing though; it’s tough and exciting.
Have you traveled anywhere interesting?
Yes, I toured the Naran and Kaghan Valleys in Gilgit-Baltistan, the northern areas of Pakistan, in 2012. In 2013, I visited Murree with my family. Naran and Kaghan are very cool places to see; I had a wonderful time and will definitely go again.
The Fairy Meadows are a breathtaking place, and I’d like to go there.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I would like to have a superpower that could bring peace to the whole world. A peaceful world will be more beautiful.
So, how would you describe yourself?
I’m a straightforward guy who desires to make the world a better place for everyone.
How would your friends describe you?
They’d say I’m someone who keeps on dreaming. My friends also call me lazy, because I am a bit lazy in my daily routines.
Do you play any sports?
I don’t get much time these days to play sports, but I like to play football and cricket. Sometimes I play cricket with my wife and younger brothers.
Do you have a nickname?
My friends used to call me “Uncle” because of my gray hairs.
What is your favorite memory?
That would be my university days with my friends, when I didn’t have any responsibilities.
Ghaffar’s favorite quote is “Don’t shrink your dreams, instead increase the courage to achieve them,” and we couldn’t agree more. Thank you Ghaffar for all the great work you’ve done for Allshore and your client!
