Asma K.

A hard working and fun woman, Asma excels at her work and loves it too. The CEO of our Islamabad and Lahore offices, Raheel A., had these wonderful things to say about Asma: “Asma is the one of the best recruiters in the IT industry of this country. She has been working for this company for the last 3 years and never have we needed a resource of any technology that she couldn’t find. She is a very professional, organized, and hardworking employee of this company. She has made a huge contribution in the growth of this company.”

Allshore’s Chief Operations Officer, Tara Waddle, told us: “Without a doubt, Asma is one of the most hard-working professionals I know.  Regardless of the situation, she always remains driven and focused, with a positive attitude.  She is extremely organized and flexible, and I know when asked, I can count on her to manage nearly any request.  Besides her excellent work ethic, she is so funny, and I’m so glad to call her both a teammate and a friend.  Asma helped us to establish our current recruiting methods, and we would not be where we are today without her hard work and support.”

We chatted with Asma to learn how she got started in her field, and more about her life.

Will you start with your career, and how you got to your current position with us?
Well, it was just by chance that I got into the HR field. I was working in a pre-school where I met the mother of one of my students who offered me a job in her organization. She was working as a Manager of Human Resources, and wanted me to be a part of her team. I considered it an opportunity and decided to join her. That was seven years back, and I was not even aware of the term “Human Resources” then. That’s how I started my career in HR. I worked in that multinational company for four years as an HR Coordinator. Having worked there for so long, I decided to make a move to enhance my learning curve. So, I applied here and got hired. I was hired as a Technical Recruiter and worked my way up to Talent Acquisition Manager. It’s been nearly three years now that I have been working with Allshore. Because of my passion for this field, I also earned a MBA with a specialization in HR along with working. Now I feel I was meant for HR and that this was the right place for me. I could not have done better in any other field.
So your first company was multinational, what are your thoughts about working with international people?
In my previous company, I never got a chance to interact with the international clients. My first experience with international people was with Allshore, and in fact, one of the reasons behind my joining was the exposure to work with people from a different culture. It has been an amazing experience so far to work with such professionals.
So what would you say is your absolute favorite part of the office?
That would be my office, of course, because that’s where I spend all of my day.
For HR, what would say are the most important skills and abilities in order to remain successful in this career?
The most important skill is to be a “people person.” Our primary job is to manage people, so one should be approachable and easy to get along with so that the staff feels comfortable discussing their workplace issues, if there are any. I would also say that excellent interpersonal skills, persistency, and patience are important skills. We are the eyes and ears of a company.
So Asma, outside of work, what do you like to do in your free time? What are some personal hobbies/interests you have?
I like shopping, watching movies, and spending time with my family, especially my nephews.
What types of movies do you like?
I like all genres except science fiction, but romantic comedy stays at the top for me.
IMG-20150517-WA0000Have you followed any of the series that have been very popular through the U.S.? Such as The Hunger Games or Divergent?

I have seen all of them. I watch movies regularly like doing homework. Curling up on the couch and watching a movie is such a great thing.
So, tell us about your family and what you all do together for fun!
I have three brothers and three sisters, and my mom and dad. Don’t forget my three nephews! We like to have good family time together at home. Sometimes, we go out for a family outing or to dine out, and we all love playing with the nephews.
Do you have a favorite restaurant or type of food?
I love South Asian food, and I am only fond of chicken. I don’t really have a favorite restaurant, but I do like “KC Grill” because their food is very good and “Fijjis Grill” due to their ambiance. I like to try new places.
So three nephews? I bet they adore their Aunt!
Oh yes, I am their favorite because I still have a playful kid inside me and I love kids.
Have you had the chance to travel anywhere interesting before? Where would you like to go?
I spent my early childhood in the Middle East. I would like to travel around the world and explore nature, since I find it truly inspiring. I wish to see every island in the world. Water and greenery is my passion, wherever I can get it.
So what/who is your favorite: color, room in your house, actor/actress?
My favorites are black and blue, though I like all colors now. My favorite rooms are my room and the TV lounge, and Leonardo Dicaprio is my favorite actor.

Asma loves watching movies, and if she could play any character in a movie she would want to play a sophisticated woman like Jane Austen or an adventurous girl. She also told us: “There is a famous saying here, that a cobbler’s shoes are always torn. They mend other’s shoes but their own shoes. That’s also the case with me.” Asma is an energetic part of the office and loves to help others. We’re very lucky to have her, and hope she stays with us for years to come!
